I'm A Lucky Puppy

So, my mum braved the Walk for Hunger traffic today to get to Target in order to stock up on Polka Dog Bakery goodies for me! For those of you who live outside of Boston, or Massachusetts in general, the Walk for Hunger is a twenty mile charitable walk, which equates to a ton of traffic and major detours. Today happened to be the launch of The Shops at Target, which is a collection of merchandise from their favorite shops across the country, all of which was designed specifically for Target. She bought me three boxes of treats, plus a toy snow cone and ice cream sandwich since she couldn't decide which was cuter. She thinks I have too much stuff and that I should probably share some of it with my cousins. As long as she plans on replenishing the supply some time in the near future, I'll agree to that! ;P

April Showers

Or complete lack thereof is more like it. It's hardly rained at all this month, which is actually a bummer because I don't get to wear my sassy raincoat that my mum's co-worker gave me as a hand-me down. Her own puppy had quickly outgrown it and she thought that I'd fit it perfectly. I never imagined yellow was my color, but it's not so bad after all. Apparently, Fritz finds this whole scenario amusing, since he was caught in the background laughing! He's probably just jealous. >:0

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Everyone's a little Irish on St. Patrick's Day — even Chihuahuas. ;)

Boot Boycott

My mum has purchased and returned two sets of doggie booties for me this year. Fortunately, it hasn't been a snowy winter. She has noticed that on the rare occasion there was snow or ice on the ground, my little paws would freeze up a lot quicker than usual, causing me to act all over dramatic and demand that she pick me up and carry me home immediately. She thought it might be a good idea to "invest" in some boots for me. Little did she know, it's virtually impossible to find any small enough for my tiny tootsies that will actually stay on once I move! Length, width, you name it — it was a pain. She got frustrated and decided that she'd rather carry me around after I get all slushy than go through the trouble of putting all four boots on me and then trying not to lose any. I could've told her I'd win this one! ;)

Spice up those Milk-Bones!

Dear Milk-Bone Executives,

I am writing to you because I have an ingenious idea that requires your immediate attention. Please drop whatever you are doing so that you can begin production on it right away. I think it is time for you to update your Flavor Snacks. I have been eating them for over ten years now, and quite frankly, I am so bored of them! If you are going to introduce some new and exciting recipes, you should try something radical like South of the Border Flavors. Those can consist of guacamole, salsa, rice and beans, and taco. Since I am mostly Chihuahua and pretty darn cute, I feel that my picture should be on the packaging. To make the product appear more authentically Mexican, I will even wear my sombrero to the photo shoot. Since my mum likes graphic design, I have asked her to generate a mock-up for your review. Please copy it as closely as possible. I am available 24/7, so please contact me as soon as you are ready to market these. Does next week sound like a reasonable time frame?

Thanks,
Kipper

Go Cats... I mean Pats!

Even though our mum couldn't possibly care any less about football, Fritz and I are rooting for our home team. They are playing in the Super Bowl today after all! Maybe I can convince her to watch some of the commercials with me. I hear a few of them are featuring dogs this year. :)

Pita Bed

Fritz has this bed that looks like an ordinary cushion, but it's got a pocket right in the middle so a doggy or kitty can climb in and stay warm while they snooze. It's similar to a person using a sleeping bag. Mum calls it his pita bed because he looks sandwiched whenever he's in it. Something tells me Fritz wouldn't mind being inside of a giant sandwich... and I'm sure he'd take any kind of bread!

Third Place!

My mum's work had an office door decorating contest recently and the only requirements were that it incorporate a New Year's theme and at least one animal. The first things that come to mind when one thinks about New Year's are champagne, fireworks, parties, Times Square, and so forth. She had limited space to work with, so she decided that fireworks would make the perfect backdrop. The only problem is a lot of dogs are afraid of them! So, if you're putting two and two together, you've probably figured out the story by now. It's New Year's and while the fireworks are blasting away, the dogs are all huddled together wearing their Thundershirts (aka anxiety vests). The cats aren't afraid and are wondering why the dogs won't come and celebrate with them. Oh and most importantly — these aren't just any cats and dogs! While you might recognize Fritz and I in the mix, all of the other animals featured belong to people in her department. In fact, she wouldn't have done it if she couldn't include everybody. Well, her hard work paid off and she came in third place. Her colleagues were the judges and each got to cast one vote. There were so many cute, clever, and creative doors to choose from, making it a tough competition.

New year, new monkey

Back in 2008, when my mum was shopping at Trader Joe's, she happened to stumble upon what would become my favorite toy of all time... my stuffed monkey! As the years passed, she insisted that he was losing his charm and was falling apart. Despite his rough shape, she didn't have the heart to retire him because she knew how much I loved that toy. Well, this past weekend, she was at Petco and was floored when she spotted a virtual clone of my monkey out of the corner of her eye. She knew she had to get it for me and when I saw the two of them together, I almost couldn't tell them apart — except the new monkey squeaks! Even though I thought she could never replace my monkey, I think she managed to do pretty good. ;)
