Christmas Carols

In order to get into the holiday spirit, I've been singing a lot of Christmas carols. I really like Feliz Navidad because it reminds me of my sato heritage. Fritz complains that I give him a headache. What does he know?! I think I may audition for the next American Idol... ;P

What a Difference a Week Makes

So Monday morning shortly after we get out of bed, my mum gasps and asks, "What happened to your face?!" It turns out, the right side was swollen to twice its size. She got me to the vet as early as possible and the diagnosis was a fractured tooth and abscess. Ouch! The tooth had to come out right away, which required surgery. Here is a picture of me in the hospital waiting room. The swelling in my cheek looks like I've got a golf ball in there.

The surgery was a success and while I was extremely groggy, I went straight back to eating and chewing like I normally do. Didn't want to waste any perfectly good food after all. ;) The swelling gradually went down and I got to go to work with my mum on Friday. By then, I looked like my old self once again. I was feeling so much better that I couldn't sit still while she was trying to get a photo of me with her Charlie Brown Christmas tree. I was just so excited to have that rotten tooth out of my mouth — that and I can't wait to see what Sandy Claws brings me for a present this year. I swear I've been a good girl... I think anyway. Just don't ask Fritz to confirm!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We will happily accept any leftovers anyone out there does not want... Yummy! :9 I hope you all enjoy cooking, eating, relaxing, watching the parade and/or football, shopping, and whatever else people do on Thanksgiving — oh yeah, being thankful! You see, from a dog's perspective, it's all about the food. ;)

Oops... I mean, "ROAR!" Don't I look scary in my lion costume? It was even scarier that we got three inches of snow here in Boston over the weekend. Last I checked, it was OCTOBER! I really hope all of the slushy remnants melt away before the trick-or-treaters are out and about. Anyway, I hope everyone has a happy and safe Halloween! :D

The ground has suddenly become a lot messier... Come to think of it, the trees are looking a lot balder. I think I may be on to something here!

Happy Anniversary Fritz!

It's hard to believe, but the big lug has been in our lives for one year today. There hasn't been a dull moment the entire time... here's to many more years together, big guy! :D

My Namesake

Some people assume that I'm named Kipper because my mum is a fan of the smoked fish. Actually, she is a fan of the children's storybook character (created by Mick Inkpen) of the same name. The book series was later adapted into a cartoon, and although she was very much an adult at the time, she found herself glued to the TV completely mesmerized by [the animated] Kipper's adorable looks and his charming British accent. She knew that she was going to name her next dog Kipper and even though I'm a girl, she stuck with that decision. :P I thought today was an appropriate time to share that tidbit of information since it happens to be my blog's first birthday... Happy birthday blog!

Happy September

It's hard to believe, but it's already Labor Day weekend. It's like summer came and went in the blink of an eye! :(

The calm before the storm

Here's a photo of Fritz on Saturday morning before the tropical storm came into town. He was full of questions like, "Why is the deck furniture inside the house?" Then, "Who's Irene and was she invited?" And, "When will she go away?" In any event, he was thrilled to have a temporary indoor jungle gym to play with. :) We were relieved that all we got was a lot of wind and no power outages. Hopefully all of you are nice and safe!

Dog Days of Summer

We're approaching the end of summer and I am still completely in vacation mode. That explains why I haven't been posting much lately... I deserve a break, don't I? Anyway, here's a photo of Fritz saying hello on behalf of both of us. :)

Kip likes catnip!

I noticed that whenever mum gives Fritz this green, leafy treat, he gets so excited. He goes charging across the room and then headbutts her hand so that more of it spills out of the packaging. Then he sniffs it for a couple of seconds, then rolls around in it, and then finally eats the stuff. One day, I wondered what all the fuss was about, so I tried some. That stuff is yummy! Now we both get excited when we see the bag coming out of the cabinet. Fritz told me that this vegetable-like snack is called "catnip" for a reason — it's for cats! I think he's just saying that so he can have it all to himself. How greedy of him... and mum is always calling him a sweet boy. Hmmm, maybe he learned his sharing skills (or lack thereof) from li'l old me! ;)

Do these things work?

Anyone who knows me knows I can't stand thunderstorms. They make me so nervous that I pace and I pant like crazy! Mum has tried just about every trick in the book attempting to calm me down, but she has been unsuccessful thus far. Then her friend at work told her about Thundershirts. She initially thought this was something a member of an 80s hair band might wear, but it was explained to her that you'd put one on an anxious dog and the pressure it applies to the pooch is supposedly soothing. I'm not really a fan of clothing to begin with and a garment that sounds heavy and/or tight would probably make me feel even more uncomfortable! Even when I envision myself wearing such a shirt, I look tense... :(

If Fritz wore a collar...

it would look something like this — except not purple! Ever since mum brought him home, she wanted to do the responsible thing and have him wear a collar. Unfortunately, the crazy boy simply won't have it. He'll go berserk and run all over the house doing whatever he can to get the thing off of his neck as quickly as possible! And I thought I had a negative reaction about wearing clothes. I'm not nearly as dramatic. ;)

Happy 4th!

I've already had my hot dog... I hope all of the other pups out there get one too! :9 Have a happy and safe holiday all — even though I'm personally afraid of fireworks myself. :(

The mystery of the missing balls

My mum has lost track of how many mylar balls (she calls them crinkle balls because of the noise they make) that she has given to Fritz, which have disappeared into thin air! He loves those things, but they never seem to be around long. Mumsy thinks that he is either eating them, or forcing them down the bathtub drain. I personally believe that we've got some sort of portal(s) that leads to a parallel universe in which these balls are attracted to. I have no idea what they'd be doing there, but I'm sure it would beat being chased around by a big, rambunctious kitty! We may have to hire a detective to solve this mystery...

Happy June!

I can't believe 2011 is practically half over. I guess time flies when you're having fun! :D

Don't get the birds angry

The birds have been singing constantly around here and Fritz likes to sit by the window and stalk them all day long. I sometimes wonder what he would do if he ever managed to catch one of them. Better yet, what would the birds do? I doubt Fritz is capable of hurting anything, so I'm envisioning a scene straight out of Angry Birds! Be careful Fritz... :0

As you can tell, I haven't been up to much lately. I've decided to audition for the next Pedigree Dentastix commercial — you know, the ads with the dogs wearing dentures? Fortunately, I've got a full set of chompers of my own, so I'll have to put on quite the acting performance. I'm not too worried about that though... I mean, I'm sure my mum doesn't call me a drama queen for nothing!

Big Foot Fritz

My mum is always marveling at the size of Fritz's feet. While he does not have double paws, the toes he does have are extremely huge! She thinks it looks like he's wearing Mickey Mouse gloves or something. Perhaps he was a Mouseketeer before he came to live with us... I think I hear him coming as we speak — STOMP, STOMP, STOMP! :D

Spring Fever

Now that the April showers are behind us, it's time to bring on the May flowers! They're so pretty to look at and nice to smell. But I think Fritz may be a bit allergic — he's been quite the sneezy kitty lately. In fact, I think I hear him right now. "AH-CHOOO!" It's a good thing he's an indoor cat... ;)

An Homage to Cadbury

My mum is a huge fan of Cadbury's Easter candy... and that's an understatement. She stocks up on their Mini and Creme Eggs as soon as they're available in stores every year and she'll continue buying them for as long as they're on the shelves. Fritz and I wonder how it is she doesn't weigh 500 pounds! Anyway, she thinks because she's such a good customer, Cadbury owes her some kind of commission. She's not looking for anything monetary though — she'd be perfectly happy if they made Fritz and I their honorary mascots for one year in lieu of that boring white rabbit. How do you think we look?

Fritz The Businessman

Now that Fritz is a young man, he is contemplating his career path. I'm a stay-at-home-dog and he has decided not to follow in my footsteps. :( He's thinking about becoming a hotelier. He doesn't want to run some old dump though, so he's aiming for luxury! Or perhaps he can simply revamp the already existing Ritz-Carlton. He's come up with a new and improved logo and all... ;P Work is for the birds — but in his case, it's for the cats!

April Showers

I've heard of April showers, but April snow showers? Well, that's what we got on April Fool's Day! That was quite the joke after such a brutal winter. And here I was thinking spring had sprung... looking for grass sprouting, trees budding, and birds singing. Hmpf! All I can say is, we'd better get some mighty nice May flowers out of all of this. I'm tired of smelling like wet dog! :(

Identity Crisis

No one seems to know what I am. My dentist calls me a terrier. My ophthalmologist tech thinks I'm just a really big Chihuahua. The truth is, since I was found roaming the streets of Puerto Rico, no one can determine that. I'd like to do a doggie DNA test so that I can settle the debate. For some reason, American Eskimos remind my mum of me... so if you cross one of those with a Chihuahua, you'd get a Mexican Eskimo, right? That's what she likes calling me anyway. Perhaps that will become the next [gag] "designer breed." :P I hope not because I like being unique!

My first award

My buddy Chicco has presented me with this lovely award today. I've never won anything in my life... I'm so excited! Thanks so much Chicco! :D

I need a vacation

All the grade school kids were on February vacation last week and college students will be on Spring break in a matter of time. That reminds me that I need a vacation too! If I could choose anywhere in the world to go and who to take, I would pick Casa Bonita in Denver, CO. It's a huge Mexican restaurant with a ton of entertaining attractions. I would bring all of my doggie cousins along (no kitties allowed... sorry Fritz!) and we would get all dressed up in Mexican attire to eat yummy tacos and other spicy food! So, if you guys happen to be reading this — Barney, Luca, Bella, and Magoo... as soon as I save up enough money, we're all heading west for Kipper Fiesta 2011! Does anyone know how to make plane reservations?

So, one of the doggy blogs that I follow is having a contest. Corbin, of Oh, Corbin wants to hang out with fellow bloggers, and whoever can come up with the best activity wins! It may not be the fanciest of destinations, but I decided to take him to the Oscar Mayer headquarters. What dog wouldn't want to go there? We got to go for a ride in the Wienermobile and we were treated to plenty of FREE SAMPLES! He took lots of photos on his camera and I loaded up my fanny pack with souvenirs. I certainly had a blast... can't wait to hear back from him. ;D

What is this Valentine's Day?

In our household, February 14th is celebrated because it's MY birthday. This year, I turn the big 1-0. Mum says it's a big deal because I'm now double-digits. I don't feel any different though... I just don't understand why Hallmark won't make a card for me. Don't all of those hearts and doilies ever get old?!

Happy Chinese New Year!!!

It's year of the rabbit according to the Chinese lunar calendar. I have no idea what that means, but my mum decided to post something... not just to honor the occasion, but because she can very easily reuse this image for Easter! ;D

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

Hey Phil... I've had my fill!

Somebody told me that you were the one I should talk to about this excessively snowy winter we've been having. Well, I'm not asking you, I'm begging you to make it stop, make it stop!!! All of this snow almost makes me feel obligated to become a sled dog. Enough is enough already. If you make spring come early, I promise to celebrate Groundhog Day every year from now on. :)

Mexico or Bust!

Okay, so the snow is piled up over five feet high outside. Very little of it has melted and I just found out we're supposed to get another big storm on Wednesday! :0 This is not funny. I've never seen so much snow in my life... I swear, if another flake falls, I'm running away to Mexico. It'll be nice and warm down there and they have lots of other Chihuahuas for me to hang out with. If birds can fly south for the winter, why can't I?!

Stay Tuned

So, mum's computer decided to die yesterday and she had to buy a new one. While she was able to get all of her files transferred over smoothly, she is still experiencing a few technical difficulties... one of them being loss of Photoshop! :( I can still post pictures, but they'll just be boring old snapshots for now. Hopefully we'll figure out a way to jazz them up again sooner than later. Oh, I forgot to mention that Fritz was having fun playing in the empty computer box — it's like we all got a new toy! ;)

Winter Wonderland

Yet another snow day here in Boston. We got well over a foot right after Christmas and just today, we got buried again! The snow is piled up so high out there, it feels like I'm in the North Pole. :( Every time I go for a walk, I'm convinced a polar bear is going to cross my path! Oh well... at least I had a reason to break in my new parka. What do you think?

Here fishy, fishy, fishy, fishy!!!

Here's a snapshot of Fritz playing with one of his favorite gifts that Sandy Claws brought him for Christmas. It's a toy sardine! :D
